Financial Counselor

Responsible for providing guidance to patients in all aspects of their financial responsibilities that result from acceptance of the facility's services. Assesses patients financial ability, determines ability to pay, advises patients on insurance benefits, explains financial liability, collects payments, negotiates payment arrangements and resolves any confusion the patient may have about their financial obligations to the facility. Determines patients potential eligibility for reduced fees or free services under the hospital's Financial Assistance Program. Work closely with billing and collections departments to resolve all patient inquiries regarding their bill. Work in conjunction with Community Services who will screen patients for programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, state assistance and other charitable resources. Performs pre-registration and calculation of deductibles and co-insurance for scheduled services. Ensures accuracy of all duties perfomed.

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Strong analytical problem solving skills and accounting/bookkeeping skills required
  • Knowledge of State, Federal and Health Information Portability and Accountability Act HIPAA
  • Excellent customer services and organizational skills required
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Bilingual in english and spanish preferred
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite programs required.
  • Knowledge of meditech preferred.
